Hello! I am super excited to announce a new series I am doing on the blog this month and next month during my “maternity leave” (baby hasn’t come yet, but she’s due any day. Watch Twitter or Instgram for baby updates).
Interviews with Power Pinners.
I think one of the best ways to learn is by example. I’ve interviewed several bloggers on how they use Pinterest for their blog. They will be sharing their success stories, strategies, and some tips for you!
Today’s Pinner is Kayla of Variety by Vashti. Kayla blogs about fitness, healthy living, and being a mom. Her goal is to “help you unleash your inner sexy supermom.”

What is your Pinterest Success Story.
I was using Pinterest more for my personal use and decided to get serious about using it to drive traffic to my blog. I changed my posts to include a Pinterest graphic and some sort of tip then started seeing some domino effect on posts that bring me thousands of views each day and has led to a few thousand dollars in sales from ebooks in relation to my most popular pins.
On average, what percentage of traffic to your blog comes from Pinterest.
Pinterest is my number one traffic source at 56%.
According to Pinterest analytics, what are you all-time top 4 repined pins?
You can find your all-time top 4 pins by visiting your Pinterest Analytics > Your Pinterest Profile > All-time.
Share one tip for bloggers wanting to be a successful pinner like you.
My biggest tip is to brand your Pinterest profile/boards and have MANY places that are easy for people to be reminded to pin your content. Sure I have some great repins, but MOST of my traffic comes from all the pins that people make from my site that have a snowball effect.
Having social icons, statements like “be sure to pin this” in the post plus embedding a board all gives your reader an effortless way to pin your content. Just to show you, this post has been pinned 22.6K times right from my blog, but only MY pin has been repinned 54 times. So everyone else pinning from my blog has really had a huge impact!
Do you or have you ever promoted pins? Was it worth it?
I am just now toying with the idea of promoted pins. I haven’t used them yet!
Do you change the descriptions of pins before you pin them?
I do change descriptions if I think of it. For my pins that I am using for my blog, I use the “alternate text” space on my media files in my WordPress post dashboard. This way, when someone pins, an automatic description comes up for them and I keep it related to the post + very specific and pin friendly.
On average, how many times do you pin a day?
My Pinterest strategy is to pin at night when I am laying in bed. I pin some things from my blog and some things from other sites. I know other women are doing the same thing because my notifications start popping in.
Do you use a scheduling tool?
I don’t schedule pins yet but might start thinking about that for the future.
Do you mostly repin or do you pin from the actual website more?
Currently, I mostly repin! I will pin right from a website if it’s one that I read regularly, but I don’t usually have time to read many and I keep my regular reading list small. I prefer to only keep up with a few sites that I consistently get high quality info from.
What does your Pinterest day look like?
My Pinterest day consists of hopping on every evening to see what the day was like and what pins did well for the day. Through the week I don’t spend a lot of time, but on Sat and Sunday evenings I dive in! I noticed after about a month that my stats boom on Sunday-Monday from Pinterest traffic so this is when I prefer to be pinning/repinning!
Takeaways for your Pinterest strategy
Making it easy for people to pin from your site is really important! Kayla has a pin-it button before and after each post, along with a hover pin-it button for each image!
You don’t need a lot of followers to be successful on Pinterest. Kayla is nearing 4,000 followers and yet gets thousands of visits from Pinterest each day.
What did you learn from Kayla’s Pinterest experiences?
Pinterest worked for ReShop Store. Facebook Ads, Google AdWords only were $$$ burns.
Thank you for sharing these great tips with us, I especially appreciate a post when people are actually sharing their experiences instead of just listing few things.
Thanks you 🙂

I’m so glad we could team up for this post! I love Pinterest (even as a personal obsession) but it really has hung on tight in the fight to be a top traffic source for bloggers, even as new social media platforms emerge. It’s 100% worth the time and effort to get Pinterest rocking!
