Socializing with other bloggers is a great way to make blogging friends and gain readers. You can always use social media to connect with people, but comment on other blogs is another great way to connect with people. You can make your comments more personal by using a Gravatar.
Setting up a Gravatar is very simple. In fact, I debated including pictures in this tutorial because it is that easy. I like pictures though, and these screenshots even have pictures of me in them 😉 , so naturally I decided to go for it.
First, head on over to Gravatar.com (by the way, I really like the look of the Gravatar website.) and start by clicking Create Your Own Gravatar.
You will log in using the wordpress.com account that you created when you installed Askimet on your blog. (If you haven’t already installed Askimet on your blog, GO DO IT RIGHT NOW! I don’t get any commission for telling you to go to this website, I just want to help protect your site from SPAM!)
Anyway, log in using a wordpress.com account. After you sign in, you will be brought to the Manage Gravatars screen. Click Add one by clicking here!
Next, choose where you want to get your image from. Your image doesn’t have to be a square when you upload it, the Gravatar website helps you square it to your liking. Once your picture is uploaded, crop it and then click Crop and Finish.
You will then be asked to rate your picture, based on movie ratings. That’s it! You’re Gravatar is all set up. Now, whenever you leave a comment on another blog, the beautiful picture of yourself will show up next to the comment! It will also show up in your author box and any comments you leave on your own blog!
Thank you for this post Kristie! Checking out my gravatar to see how it turned out.
uhoh. Looks like it didn’t? Check the email address?
Hi Kristie! Cruising my away along through your awesome Start a Blog Checklist. It’s been SO helpful to me. I hope you don’t mind me using your comments to test and see if I set my Gravatar up correctly. 😉 Thanks!
Your Gravatar is looking great Jenelle! Way to go on cruising through the checklist!
I am very much new to blogging, but really looking forward to this adventure. I am anxious about it as well. I’m working my way through your list. Thank you so much. I feel so much more prepared by your tutorials.
Yay! That makes me so happy to hear that the Start a Blog Checklist is helping you set things up. Best of luck Ben.
I follow this guide and manage to do it! Thanks a bunch!
yay! Your gravatar looks great.
This tutorial was super helpful and I’ve been using your guide on how to start a blog to get things up and running. Thanks so much!
Brand new to blogging. I’m really looking forward to this adventure. But anxious about it as well. I’m working my way through your list. Thank you so much. I feel so much more prepared.
Bit jealous of all the beautiful head shot. Oh well future goal….
This is my test comment to see if my new gravatar shows up
Success!!!!! Yay!!!!!
Wahoo. Your gravatar is looking good!
I’m so glad the list is helping you Audrey. It’s normal to be anxious, but you got this.
Thanks so much for your tutorial! I am new to all of this and this was a wonderful addition to my To-Do list! 🙂
Would I use WP.com if my site is on WP.org? Sorry- newbie here!
Hi. It is a little confusing. Gravatar is owned by the same people that own WordPress, so they use that sign in system for all of their applications. Even though you have a self-hosted WP.org site, you will need an account through gravatar (wp.com) to set up an image to be associated with your comments.
Thanks Kristie- to do list today: gravatar and bio box!
Laura, your new gravatar and bio box look great! Way to check something off the to-do list!
I did it! I have a gravatar! Thank you so much! So simple when you know what your doing. I’m glad you included pics…it helped me know I was in the right place.
